You Have Your Dog Crate, Now What?
More Comfortable For Your Dog For your dog's comfort, you should get a pet bed for their dog crate.
The plastic pan or bottom of a crate can be really rough on your dog's joints and muscles, especially as your dog ages.
So some padding is in order to prevent and alleviate any discomfort.
Before looking for a pet bed, measure the floor of the crate so you know what size of bed you need.
It is better to be a couple of inches too big in a direction than a couple of inches too small.
The overlap of the bed can be turned up to act as a bolster around the bottom edges of the crate.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of different styles of pet beds available:
- Pet beds with cedar chips will repel fleas and ticks.
The cedar aroma also lessens any other odors.
Look for a dog bed in which the cedar chips are contained in an inner shell so that you can easily remove and wash the outer cover. - Pet beds with a cotton or poly fiber filling.
These are usually basic beds that cushion joints and muscles and raise your dog off of a cold surface. - Pet beds with regular foam, orthopedic foam, and/or thermo foam.
These dog beds are usually several inches (and more) thick, providing the ultimate in comfort and joint and muscle stress relief.
Regular foam is stiffer and does not form around your sleeping dog.
Orthopedic foam will form around your dog, providing even support and comfort.
Thermo foam is a warmth receptive solution that adapts to your dog's shape even when their body load is not enough to make an indentation in a typical foam dog bed.
As your dog falls into a deeper sleep on thermo foam, the contact areas touching their torso will adapt and support their body form. - Pet beds that cool use water for the coolant.
The bulk of the water draws body heat away from your dog, cooling them off.
A cool dog bed will feel soothing to your pet and will also provide support for sore and/or stiff joints.
A cooling dog bed is an exception to the larger is better than smaller rule.
Get a cooling dog bed that will lie flat in your dog's crate as cooling dog beds are not meant to be folded while in use. - Pet beds that warm use an electrical heating element to warm the bed.
In cold and very cold conditions, a heated dog bed will protect the health of your dog and keep them warm and cozy.
Note: Heated dog beds are designed specifically your dog.
These beds meet the specific requirements of your dogs physiology.
Never use an electric blanket for keeping your dog warm.
You may seriously or even fatally harm your pet.
