Dog Aggression is a Serious Problem - Understand What is Behind it and What You Can Do About It

Dog aggression is a problem that should be taken seriously.
Dog bites can cause mayor damage even if small dogs are involved.
If your dog has developed tendencies to snarl, snap or bite people, professional help may be needed.
There are four main types of aggression in dogs.
- The first type of dogs aggression is dominance aggression.
This type you can see when the dog feels like he is the dominant animal in the area.
This is not common to dogs, but studies suggest that this type of aggressive dogs behavior applies only to the certain breed of dogs.
- Redirected Aggression: This type of aggression is relatively common, but is a behavior that pet owners don't always understand.
If a dog is provoked into an aggressive dogs behavior  by a person or animal that he is prevented from attacking, he may redirect this aggression onto someone else.
Familiar example is when two family dogs become excited, bark and growl towards another dog passing in front of the house.
The two aggressive dogs, confined behind a fence, may turn and attack each other because they can't attack the third dog.
- Fear-induced aggression occurs when people or animals approach a fearful dog.
This is common when the dog cannot escape, and is very often present when an owner uses severe punishment.
- Possessive or protective aggression is similar to fear aggression but this type of behavior is most of the time associated to protecting the property that the dog feels belong to him.
It can be your family, or your home, his food or toy.
This could be treated in a way as a positive type of aggression, as this type of aggression usually prevents your home from being robed.
Every year, many dogs are sent to animal shelters and are forced to be put down when attacked, causing many individuals a great deal of pain and suffering.
Instead of allowing your dog to exhibit aggressive behavior, you should immediately correct any behavior that can be seen as threat.
Also, make sure to keep your dog on a leash in all common places.
Consider putting a higher fence, as most aggressive dogs are known to attack bystanders.
In addition to correcting your dogs behavior, you should put effort to also correct the behavior of individuals who provoke your animal and may cause them to attack.
Once again, dog aggression is serious problem and don't  take it lightly.
