Homeopathic Treatment for Sarcoptic Mange
- Sarcoptic mange, also called red mange, occurs when sarcoptic mites infest a dog's skin. They bite, lay eggs and cause intense itching and discomfort. They are also highly contagious, and are best treated immediately.
- Dogs with mange display red, irritated skin that can progress to being scabby and flaky. Heavy infestations lead to hair loss. Dogs with mange experience heavy itching and irritation, and often lose weight because of the discomfort.
- All-natural enzyme shampoos that are designed to treat lice in humans often have a secondary function as anti-mite shampoos. These shampoos treat both the mites themselves and their damage and aftermath. Enzyme shampoos come in soothing formulations such as Mentholatum and peppermint, and are used like a general shampoo.
- Household products can also provide homeopathic solutions for mange. Cooking oil spread over mange areas softens scabs, relieves dryness and kills mites. A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and borax powder provides a nontoxic medicated wash. A simple solution of warm water and soap flushes mites off a dog's skin and down the drain.
- Lavender, neem and almond oils can be combined to produce another soothing, natural mange treatment. Lavender and almond oils soothe while neem oil kills the mites.
Diet is an important aspect of any recovery; mange strikes dogs with weak immune systems more often than healthy dogs. Improving a dog's diet will help him get over a mite infestation and prevent future mites.
